Experiential Learning
Experiential Learning is a process whereby students acquire knowledge, skills, and values through structured connections with the “real world” achieved through internships, cooperative education (co-op), or externships. Internships can be either academic credit-bearing or non-credit bearing.
The University of Kentucky encourages students to pursue internships during their studies. These kinds of internships can provide students:
- Valuable professional experience in their areas of academic study
- Opportunities to work with professionals
- Marketable skills such as professionalism, leadership, and problem-solving
- Confidence
- Valuable career contacts
- Insight into their own strengths, weaknesses, and values.
